Use of Vasopressin in Cardiopulmonary Arrest: Controversy and Promise

چکیده

Cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation for cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) is often unsuccessful. Therefore, any method that could decrease the significant mortality associated with CPA would be valuable. Current pharmacologic management of CPA involves the use of epinephrine for increased cardiac output and systemic vasoconstriction; however, this agent is associated with a significant number of adverse effects, including increased myocardial oxygen consumption and tachyarrhythmia. Vasopressin has shown to be superior to epinephrine in several small animal-model experimental studies; in humans, large-scale clinical studies

Vasopressin in the ICU.

PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW Vasopressin is one of the most important endogenously released stress hormones during shock. In this review, studies published in the past year that add to our understanding of the use of vasopressin in the ICU are discussed. RECENT FINDINGS Endogenous vasopressin levels are inappropriately low in adults with severe sepsis but not in children with meningococcal septic sh...

Vasopressin in cardiac arrest and vasodilatory shock: a forgotten drug for new indications.

Vasopressin is a potent endogenous vasoconstrictor that increases blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance. The administration of exogenous vasopressin during closed and open cardiopulmonary resuscitation in humans was shown to be more effective than optimal doses of epinephrine in several clinical studies. We summarize here the recent experimental and clinical data on the use of vasopre...

Neural injury after use of vasopressin and adrenaline during porcine cardiopulmonary resuscitation

BACKGROUND Our aim was to investigate cerebral and cardiac tissue injury subsequent to use of vasopressin and adrenaline in combination compared with vasopressin alone during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). METHODS In a randomized, prospective, laboratory animal study 28 anesthetized piglets were subject to a 12-min untreated cardiac arrest and subsequent CPR. After 1 min of CPR, 10 of t...

Outcomes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the emergency department

Objective: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in the prevention of death or delaying it in a person with cardiac arrest. In this regard, demographic information about patients who need CPR is vital. Methods: In this cross-sectional study patients with cardiopulmonary arrest or arrhythmias admitted to Imam Reza and Sina ed...

Evaluation of effective factors in the success of resuscitation of patients with in-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest

Background: Previous studies have shown that several factors affect the outcome of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In this study, we have evaluated the factors associated with the outcome of resuscitation in in-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest patients (IHCA) 002E. Methods: This cross-sectional non-probability study was performed on patients with in-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest between 2015 a...
